Evidence-Based Support for Chronic Lung Conditions
At The Heal Hut, our virtual pulmonary rehabilitation programmes are designed to support people living with long-term respiratory conditions such as COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis, and post-viral lung disease (including Long COVID). Led by specialist physiotherapists with respiratory expertise, our approach focuses on improving breathlessness management, building physical resilience, and enhancing day-to-day function — all from the comfort of your home.
We provide tailored care for individuals with:
✅ Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
✅ Asthma or airway hypersensitivity
✅ Bronchiectasis
✅ Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD)
✅ Post-viral fatigue or Long COVID with breathlessness
✅ Pre- or post-lung surgery
✅ Deconditioning-related breathlessness from other long-term illnesses
📋 Initial virtual assessment with a physiotherapist experienced in respiratory care — includes breathlessness screening, current activity levels, and medical history review.
📘 Education tailored to your condition — including breathing techniques, energy conservation, pacing, and symptom awareness.
🏃 Individually prescribed exercise programme, adjusted as you progress, and monitored to ensure safety with breathlessness and oxygen levels.
🧘 Breathing control techniques (e.g., diaphragmatic breathing, pursed-lip breathing) to help manage breathlessness more effectively.
🎯 Functional goal setting — whether it’s improving walking tolerance, managing stairs, or returning to light activity, your goals shape your plan.
📆 Structured virtual blocks (typically 6–8 sessions) recommended for effective monitoring and progression.
Pulmonary rehabilitation is recognised as a first-line non-pharmacological treatment for chronic respiratory conditions. It does not cure the underlying disease, but it helps people manage symptoms, improve function, and enhance quality of life.
🔍 NICE (2023) recommends pulmonary rehabilitation for people with COPD and functional breathlessness.
A Cochrane Review (McCarthy et al., 2015) found that pulmonary rehab:
Improves exercise tolerance
Reduces hospital admissions
Improves health-related quality of life
Recent studies in post-COVID cohorts (Daynes et al., 2021, Thorax) show significant improvements in fatigue and physical function with structured pulmonary rehab.
